I loved the smell of linseed oil on my mom’s pallet. I was only eight or nine but I was fascinated by the way a painting would develop on her canvas. After about 2 weeks the painting would be framed and hanging on the wall and a new project would begin in her work area. She was always tinkering with some mixed media piece which would include tile, string, paint, paper, and other goodies.

What a great life…traveling, camping, living and painting in nature, meeting people who love art.    Landscape painters have a special connection with the natural world. They see, smell, hear, and taste nature in unique ways. Our greatest joy is opening a door to the outside, stepping out of a car, getting out of manmade objects and into the open air. There’s always a grin on our face when we take that breath of fresh air, smell the wet pine tags, see a fog roll through a valley.  If you want a rich full life, become a painter.
