July 21-25
Jennifer McChristian

Join this California artist to learn how to interpret Nature in terms of paint, using light and color to create form.  The aim of the class is to teach you to think, see, and express light and form. Color relationships, design/composition, simplifying, and the benefits of painting indoors/outdoors will be discussed, as well as how to design and build a painting that carries an intentional impact.

The class will offer demonstrations and individual instruction. We will focus on values, shapes, edges, and color as they relate to painting  working wet into wet to complete a painting in one session.

Marc Hanson
Mugshot.jpg

Marc Hanson, living in Minnesota is a well seasoned workshop presenter and has developed a reputation as a great teacher.  Demonstrations, exercises, plenty of painting time, critiques at the easel and as a group.  There will be some group lecture and discussion, but I'm a firm believer that it's the work "on the ground" that does a student the most good.

Bring your paints and palette to translate the complex beauty of New Mexico into the visual language of art. You’ll spend mornings and afternoons sketching and painting outdoors when the shadows are long and the color is rich. During these field sessions and in the classroom, we’ll discuss fundamentals of value, design, and color, and planning larger studio paintings from plein air studies. Instruction focuses on oil, but will include pastel, which shares many concepts and techniques.
